Matt Schrader is an Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist, filmmaker, and podcast producer-director, and the founder and CEO of Epicleff Media. He wrote and directed Score: A Film Music Documentary, a New York Times Critics' Pick that reached number one on VOD after its theatrical run — and was the year's most pirated documentary. Its success spawned Score: The Podcast, now in its seventh season. A television adaptation remains available.
With Blockbuster, he pioneered the "biopod" — biopic-style scripted drama — winning Adweek's Creative Podcast of the Year back-to-back and drawing The Verge's credit for inventing the format. He has written, directed, and produced audio for Audible, Lionsgate, Tenderfoot TV, iHeartMedia, Sony, and Imagine Entertainment, working with Jon Hamm, Mandy Moore, Cedric the Entertainer, and Kelly Ripa. The Jon Hamm-led The Big Lie (Tribeca 2022, Webby) and The Big Fix (Audie, Signal) sit alongside The Boar's Nest (Mandy Moore; Mick Jagger EP; Gracie Award).

Matt Schrader is an Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist, filmmaker, and podcast producer-director who writes and directs scripted and documentary audio. As founder and CEO of Epicleff Media, established in 2014, he pioneered the "biopod" genre — biopic-style scripted true drama — with Blockbuster, an Ambies finalist, back-to-back winner of Adweek's Creative Podcast of the Year, and credited by The Verge with inventing the format.
He has written, directed and produced audio for Audible, Lionsgate, Tenderfoot TV, iHeartMedia, Sony and Imagine Entertainment. The Jon Hamm-led The Big Lie and The Big Fix, written by John Mankiewicz, are Audible Originals; so is The Boar's Nest, led by Mandy Moore and executive produced by Mick Jagger, on Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. Also on the slate: the Sony science-fiction series Mars Base One; Kenya Barris' Big Age, starring Cedric the Entertainer; Kelly Ripa's Summer Breeze; and the investigations From Nowhere for Tenderfoot TV and The Secret World of Roald Dahl for Imagine.
His film Score: A Film Music Documentary became the number-one documentary on VOD platforms following a theatrical run, earned a New York Times Critics' Pick and a 94% Rotten Tomatoes rating, and held the unusual distinction of being the year's most pirated documentary. Its success spawned the long-running Score: The Podcast, now in its seventh season. A television adaptation remains available.
Before podcasts and film, Schrader was a nationally recognized investigative reporter for CBS and NBC News, earning Emmy Awards, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, and honors from Walter Cronkite, IRE and others. His work drove changes to California law and returned millions of dollars to taxpayers and consumers, and included undercover investigations, consumer reporting, breaking news team coverage and entertainment deep dives.
A graduate of USC Annenberg and the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Schrader has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Verge and The Hollywood Reporter, and has spoken at Google, Disney, the Grammy Museum, the Smithsonian and Dolby.
